Vox

Dictation for the Mac, everywhere you type. Hold a key, talk, let go. Vox types what you meant, where your cursor is.

Vox's welcome screen asking where your voice should be transcribed: on this Mac (recommended) or on your own server

Private by default

Speech is transcribed on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose a server of your own.

Fast

Each sentence is transcribed as you finish it, so the text is there a moment after you let go.

It types what you meant

Ums, stutters and repeats come out. Spacing and capitals fit the text around the cursor.

It never loses your words

If the text can't be typed it is copied, and every dictation is kept in History with its recording.

Fix it and act by voice

"Change Tuesday to Wednesday" edits what Vox just typed. Hold right ⌥ and say "open Safari" or "left half".

Yours to run

Use the model on your Mac, a speech server you host, and any AI service you have a key for. A dictionary learns your names and jargon.

Install

  1. Open the download and drag Vox to your Applications folder.
  2. This first version isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch: click Done, then open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
  3. The welcome takes about a minute: choose where transcription happens (on this Mac is one download of about 480 MB), then allow the microphone and Accessibility.
  4. From then on Vox checks here for updates.
